
The now legendary US Vogue Editor, rumoured to have been 'The Devil' in the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger and sucessful movie 'The Devil Wears Prada' with Meryl Streep, has made several interesting revelation in a rare TV appearance for CBS' 60 Minutes.
The 59-year-old Iron Lady of fashion said she gently suggested to the massive US entertainment star Oprah Winfrey to lose weight before a photoshoot for the fashion bible cover in 1998.
In her terms, the woman who's been editing Vogue for 22 years now, said :"I went to Chicago to visit Oprah, and I suggested that it might be an idea that she lose a bit of weight."
"I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trooper! She totally welcomed the idea, and she went on a very stringent diet. And it was one of our most successful covers ever."
Oprah, now 55, made US Vogue cover with the tagline "Oprah! A Major Movie, An Amazing Makeover" alluding to her movie Beloved and her new slimmer figure.
The fashionista then went on a tirade about the scaring threat of obesity in the United States and called for better education in the matters of eating, exercising and towards a healthier lifestyle. It came after she commented on a recent trip to Minnesota, where she was, from her own admission, appalled by the look of most of the people she saw, refered to as "little houses", "kindly"...
"There's such an epidemic of obesity in the United States, and for some reason, everybody focuses on anorexia."
"We need to spend money, time and education on teaching people to eat, exercise and take care of themselves in a healthier way. It provoked, which is really the point." were Mrs. Wintour's words.
Another topic discussed in this sure to become controversial interview was her defending of the use of the 'brushing up' of magazine pictures with Photoshop to make "people look their best".
