Two days ago, on Thursday, May 21, the British Fashion Council has appointed a Fashion journalist and columnist for the Daily Telegraph, Sarah Mower as Ambassador for Emerging Talents (in Fashion obviously).
The lady is the very first to occupy this newly created position, as part of the re-structuring Council as the London Fashion Week hits the 25th year mark!
Ms Mower's role will consist mainly in chairing the BFC's NewGen committee, which, as its name hints, discuss and distributes sponsoring to Britain's most talented young designers and fahion graduates so as to help them build their reputation. Here's why many consider Mower particularly suited to the job : she happens to have a strong international experience -and certainly network of relations now- through her work with Style.com, and Vogue US in the past, to name but a few.
Her comments on her appointment were full of positivity and optimism, despite the current economic downturn :
"I'm honoured to be asked to take up this role on behalf of emerging designers. In Britain we have a phenomenon on our hands at the moment: a uniquely vibrant, varied and collaborative flowering of talent that is some of the most exciting on the world stage. It's a tough economy, but I believe the inspired and beautifully-made clothes our designers are producing now gives young London an opportunity to shine."
Exciting for the UK's fashion scene!
